Most recently, the 2021 “Mayor’s Cup” China (Wenzhou) Industrial Design Competition Final was held in Wenzhou University. After half a year’s hard work, this industrial design event welcomed the final competition. Designers from across the country worked around the theme of “Innovative design for a smart future” and came up with one innovative and unique design after another, presenting a brand-new meaning to the industrial world.

The “Happy Prosthesis” design from National Cheng Kung University and the “Extendable Shipwreck Rescue Suit” designed by Wenzhou Reddot Industrial Design Center won the Gold Medal for Product Award and Creativity Award respectively in the 2021 “Mayor’s Cup” China (Wenzhou) Industrial Design Competition. The design work “To the Truth and Sunlight” collaborated by candidate Fengyan Bei from the College of Fine Arts and Design at Wenzhou University and candidate Yanning Yang from Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology won the Gold Medal for G104 Fashion Design Special Award. At the ceremony two Silver Medals and five Bronze Medals for Product Award and three Silver Medals and six Bronze Medals for Creativity Award were also presented.

During this year’s competition, a total 7077 entries were received, an increase of 68.5% compared to last year, including 4567 entries for Product Award and Creativity Award, an increase of 49.5% compared to last year.

It has been reported that for five years in a row, the “Mayor’s Cup” has attracted over 24000 entries, which not only introduced a steady flow of fresh blood into industrial design sector in Wenzhou City, but also built a broad platform for traditional design elements to enter a much broader stage outside Wenzhou.
