Recently the largest single competition during the 14th National Games held outside Shaanxi Province-the Dragon Boat Race is in progress. This Dragon Boat final is the first ever race of the National Games sponsored by Wenzhou. It is also the first top national dragon boat race after the completion of Wenzhou Dragon Boat Sports Center as well as an important drill for the Dragon Boat race of Asian Games to be held next year.

In response to the call of Wenzhou Sports Bureau and Ouhai District People’s Government , we dispatched 48 teachers and students to participate in the volunteering service, which helped with the services provided by Wenzhou City, promoted Wenzhou’s brand name, and improved the image of Wenzhou as “the best place to watch Dragon Boat race”. Our teachers and students worked hard to help with the competition and they were seen at every corner of the venue.

At the security checkpoint, our volunteers took charge of ushering visitors, checking their travel pass and health codes, Q&A, as well as maintaining the order at the site; inside the racing course, our volunteers helped carry food for the athletes, move tables and chairs as well as maintain the order at the site; at the medical center, our volunteers made use of their medical knowledge to provide timely treatment for injured players, which made the players feel taken good care of in Wenzhou; at the designated hotels, our volunteers scheduled athletes’ accommodation, food, and travel and provided daily temperature  check to the athletes; at the media area of the racing course, our volunteers recorded with their cameras the moments of hard work provided by the “Xiao Ou Gan” volunteers. During the competition, volunteers from Wenzhou University worked hard for four days with their most attractive smiles, best servicesand strictest disciplinary services, which contributed greatly to the success of the Dragon Boat Race of the 14th National Games and won high recognition from the sponsors, athletes, referees, and guests. In the meantime our volunteers also gained unforgettable experience from their volunteering activity.

“National Games for the nationals”-“Hello, welcome to Wenzhou”. As a volunteer, while we are helping others, we also achieve self-improvement. While assisting others to live a more colorful life, volunteers can also get a mental boost from it, learn to communicate more effectively and take care of others, as well as gain more insight about the meaning of life. Furthermore, volunteering also provides us an opportunity to learn about the society and a platform for training and improvement as pointed out by Minghui Li, one of the volunteers.

This Dragon Boat Race was reported to have been held in the newly built Wenzhou Dragon Boat Sports Center, which is located at the center of Ouhai District. Covering a total land area of 532 mu (approximately equivalent to 0.35 square kilometers), the sports center is comprised of buildings, landscapes, and waters. Complimented by Qianlong Pavilion, Guanlong Lookout, Terminal Tower, a 1200mx130mx3.5m water track, this is a top-quality Dragon Boat racecourse built in accordance with international standards. This Dragon Boat Race is the first top national dragon boat race after the completion of Wenzhou Dragon Boat Sports Center as well as an important drill for the Dragon Boat Race of Asian Games to be held next year. It also creates an important opportunity to improve the functions of the city, promote Wenzhou’s brand name, and enhance the image of Wenzhou as “the best place to watch Dragon Boat Race”.
